A little over 100 years ago my family came off the boat and found themselves living in the Lower East Side. They were in a small tenement on Hester Street. In the summer of 2021 I moved to New York and was working only a few blocks away when I learned that my families roots could be traced back to the nearby street. I too was new to this city, and this series is about the familiarity and unfamiliarity of this place. The feeling of nostalgia for a place I had never truly lived in and yet I am home.
